A specialized process has been developed enabling large photos and images to be mounted on aluminum sheets with acrylic sheets laminated onto the front. The final, minimalistic wall hangings are beautiful without traditional art frames. The patented lamination process is called Diasec. The key to the process is mounting the print without air bubbles or smears, which takes practice. For large images, employ a partner and a large, electric press with adjustable pressure settings.

Store all materials in a clean workroom for at least 24 hours prior to bonding to acclimate their temperatures.
2Cut the aluminum and Plexiglas sheets using a table saw with blades designed for aluminum and Plexiglas. De-burr sharp edges from the aluminum with a fine, flat file and emery cloth.
3Read the instructions for the specific type of mounting adhesive primer you will use. Coat both the aluminum sheet and the back of the image using a roller and brushes as necessary and let dry.
4Place one edge of the image facing up on top, lead edge of the aluminum sheet and gradually feed it through the electric rolling press.
5Coat the top face of the image and the inner face of the Plexiglas with the adhesive and let dry. Lay the first edge of the acrylic down on the lead edge and gradually feed it through the press.
6Finish the edges of the aluminum and Plexiglas sheets with a file. If the edges vary considerably, run the final laminate through the table saw to shave off any overhangs. File and sand the edges smooth.
