How to Make Money on Celebrity Photos

How to Make Money on Celebrity Photos

Celebrity photos are not only snapped by the paparazzi, but by ordinary people like you and me. Just because youre not a pro, that doesnt mean you cant profit from your celebrity snapshots. There are several ways to go about selling your celebrity photos, and depending on the celebrity and situation in which youve caught the celebrity, your photo could result in big money.

Instructions

    1
    Catch a celebrity shopping.

Assess your photos for quality, clarity and newsworthiness. Ask yourself if your subject is an A list celebrity, one you see on magazine covers regularly? Does your photo illustrate big news to the entertainment world or is it just a celebrity doing her everyday thing? If your photo is big news, try to sell it directly to a magazine or publication. Otherwise, submit it to a photo agency and let them sell it for you.

A photo agency will pay you for your photos.
A photo agency will pay you for your photos.

Contact an international photo agency that specializes in selling celebrity photos. These agencies deal with a variety of publications and sell photos to the highest bidder. If your photos sell, they will take a cut of the profits and pay you the rest. A typical deal will pay you 50 to 60 percent of the profits. Try submitting your photos to The Snitcher Desk or Meet the Famous. Read the guidelines for submitting photos, as each site has different rules.

Celebrity weddings are always big news.
Celebrity weddings are always big news.

Contact publications directly if you feel your photos are big news. Publications such as Us, OK!, or Star are always looking for these types of photos. If your photo is important enough, you can get the magazines attention by emailing the contacts listed on their websites or in the back of the magazines. Your payout will be much higher this way, as you will have cut out the middle man.

    4
Mark copies you send to protect ownership of the original.

Protect your photos during the submission process to agency or publication, by creating an obvious mark on them. Once the photo has been shared, it can be hard to prove you are the owner. Protect your images from being stolen by marking them, making you the only person with the original. You can submit the marked photo to a buyer, then after the agreement to buy has been made, resubmit your original unmarked photo.

How to Determine the Print Size for the Layout of a 3ft X 6ft Banner

How to Determine the Print Size for the Layout of a 3ft X 6ft Banner

The most important aspect of setting the print size for larger banners is resolution. What looks good on your screen at 8 by 10 inches and 72 pixels/inch is going to look awful at 8 by 10 feet. (Think of six dots per inch.) Banner placement is also important, and will help decide your resolution requirement. The output, or print size, is going to be 3 by 6 feet, but if you are not printing it yourself, you just have to consider the actual number of dots in your image. Also, if you are working in a photo editing program, converting the image from RGB to CMYK (if it is not CMYK already) is important.

Instructions

    1

Check the size of the image you will print to the banner, and the resolution. The total image size in pixels is the important number (for instance, 1,000 by 2,000 pixels). If that is not specified, check the total image size in inches, and multiply that by the resolution to get total pixels. If your image size is 3 by 6 inches, and the image resolution is 1,200 pixels per inch, your total image size is 3,600 by 7,200 pixels (height by width).

    2

Divide the height and width of your image by 36 and 72 (the banner size in inches), respectively, to get the dots per inch of your final image. Using our example, the image would print to the banner at a resolution of 100 pixels per inch, which is acceptable for a low-resolution image. To see how it would look in print, zoom in to 1200% on your screen. If you want a sharper image, you need more pixels, so either scan your image again at a higher resolution, or go to your image source for a higher resolution image. For very sharp images, at least 150 dpi is necessary, but remember that the banner will look sharper from a distance. You might not need the extra resolution.

    3

Convert your image to CMYK in your photo editor to prepare it for print. If you are printing it yourself, send it to the printer and specify 36 by 72 inches in the print window that pops up. If you are sending it to a print shop, you just need to specify the size you want. The printer can take care of it from there.

How to Create a Grunge Border

How to Create a Grunge Border

You can bring life to your image by creating a grunge border and placing it around your desired photo in Photoshop. Grudge borders are created by using edgy lines or spiky straight lines. You can paint spikes that lift out of the border lines you create. Once you have created several lines, you can then take a snapshot and place these thick, jagged lines around your photo. In Photoshop, it's simple to place borders around your images.

Instructions

    1

Squeeze out a small amount of black paint on a blank white sheet of paper. Don't put the paint on too thick.

    2

Dab a piece of wood or a paint brush into the black paint and paint thick straight lines on the paper. Create rough edges while making the lines using the piece of wood. Create four, rough-edge border lines on the paper underneath each line.

    3

Snap a photo of the grunge borders you just created. Set your camera on "Exposure Compensation" and around +1 to +2 stops. Upload your photo to your computer.

    4

Launch Photoshop. Go to "File" and then "Open." Open the file you wish to place the border effect on and then click "Open." Your photo will appear on the canvas.

    5

Scroll to the left side of your screen and click the "Layers" tab. At the bottom of the "Layers" tab, click the sixth icon out of seven icons to create a "New Layer." The new layer will appear on the top of the photo layer you just opened.

    6

Fill the new layer with a gray color. Scroll to "Edit" on the top of your screen and click "Fill." A dialog box will appear. Under "Contents," choose "50% Gray" and click "OK." The color gray will fill the entire layer.

    7

Scroll to file and then click "Open." Open the border photo you just created on a sheet of paper. The photo will appear on a different tab from the other photo.

    8

Remove any color cast that may appear in the border photo. Scroll to "Image," "Adjustments" and then "Desaturate."

    9

Choose one of the borders you painted using the "Rectangular Marquee Tool" (M) and then scroll to "Edit" and then "Copy."

    10

Click the other photo tab to jump back to the original photo. Scroll to "Edit" and then "Paste." The border will appear on the gray background color.

    11

Pull the border to the bottom edge of the photo. You just created your first border. Remove the white that is around the black border from the paper by strolling to the "Layers" tab and use the drop-down box to select "Multiply." The white will be totally removed.

    12

Copy the border layer under the "Layers" tab. Right-click the border layer and click "Duplicate layer." Select the copied border layer and then pull the copied border at the top of the photo image. This is your second border around your image.

    13

Create your side borders around your image. Click the canvas with your four painted borders. Select one of the borders to copy and paste on the image on the other canvas. Scroll to "Edit" and then "Free Transform." Place your mouse on the side of the border and spin the border so it will fit the sides of the gray canvas. Duplicate the layer for the border you just transformed and drag the border to the other side of the canvas.

    14

Remove the white background from the side borders by selecting "Multiply" for the side borders under the "Layers" tab on the right corner of your screen.

    15

Merge all layers together except for the actual image. Under the "Layers" tab, select the top layer and then click "Shift" and click the gray layer. All layers will be highlighted. Scroll to the "Layer" on the top of your screen and click "Merge Layers." Now you only have two layers you are working with.

    16

Change the bend mode from "Normal" to "Overlay" using the drop-down box under the "Layers" tab on the right of your screen. A grunge border effect will appear on the image. Adjust the "Opacity of the border under the "Layers" tab and you're done.

How to Photograph Glasses

How to Photograph Glasses

Creating a photography portfolio is required if you wish to expand your photography business. Within a portfolio, you should have a wide variety of pictures that showcase your ability to capture different scenes. Photographing glasses can be challenging, because you must have the proper lighting and camera angles to make clear and artistic images.

Instructions

    1

Place the glasses you wish to photograph on a solid surface. This could be a table, desk or floor. Carefully choose where you photograph the glasses, because you need to capture the glasses at different angles. Ensure you have ample moving space.

    2

Hang a backdrop behind the glasses. A backdrop is vital, because it allows the glasses to be the main focal point of the image. A busy background can take away from the image and even reduce the details of the glasses. Backdrops can be made out of bed sheets, poster boards or fabric. Darker backdrops are ideal for shooting glasses, because they will ensure the objects are clearly captured by the camera lens.

    3

Set up a lamp or other form of lighting equipment to effectively light the glasses. Do not simply point the light directly at the glasses, because this will cause glaring. Instead, diffuse the light through a bed sheet or a lighting umbrella. Use a warm orange light, not fluorescent or white light. The goal when lighting glasses is to accent the details within them without drowning them out with harsh lighting.

    4

Look through your camera's viewfinder to discover the proper shooting angle. After you have found the angle at which you wish to shoot, place the camera on a tripod to avoid any image blur by accidentally moving the camera while shooting.

    5

Capture at least 10 to 15 frames before altering the camera angle or lighting. Review the pictures to ensure you have the shot you want.
