How to Remove Date Stamp in Photo

A date on a photo can be a nice way to remember when certain events happened. However, many people don't want to have an ugly date right on the front of their photo. Fortunately, in the age of digital editing a date stamp can be removed without any damage to the original photo.

Instructions

    1

Acquire a digital photo. This can be done either by scanning a photo to your computer or by transferring from a digital camera.

    2

Open the photo in your editing software.

    3

Zoom in to focus on the area with the date stamp.

    4

    Select the cloning tool.

    5

Set the area to clone by choosing a spot in the photo similar to what is covered by the date stamp. For example, if the date stamp is covering part of someone's leg, clone from an area on their leg not being covered by the date stamp.

    6

Click on the part of the date stamp you wish to patch with your cloned point.

    7

Repeat steps 5 and 6 until you have completely covered the date stamp.

    8

Use the paintbrush and blur tools to correct any spots that may not have cloned properly.

How to Take Professional Photos of Cars

How to Take Professional Photos of Cars

The number one rule in automotive photography is impact. For car enthusiasts, a favorite model is more a work of art than a mode of transportation. Creating that passion in pictures is the job of any professional automotive photographer. A number of markets exist for professional photos of cars, including car clubs, dealerships and collectors.

Instructions

    1

Clean the car, and keep clean dusting rags or brushes with you on the shoot to remove any dirt or debris throughout the shoot. The car should look like it just rolled off a showroom floor.

    2

Select a location that will add to the car's appeal but not take the focus away from the car. The ideal time for outdoor photography is within two hours of sunrise or two hours before sunset. During these times of the day, the sun is low in the sky and provides a softer light.

    3

Position the car and then walk around the car to look for interesting angles or elements to the car you may want to include in your photographs.

    4

Add light to the car using reflectors. Reflectors are large, white boards or material that will reflect natural light back onto the subject. Start by positioning them to the left and right of the camera position and move them around until you are satisfied with the result. Reflectors will often have a white side, providing a cooler light similar to flashes, and a gold side, designed to recreate a warmer, more natural tone. While you can use a camera flash, the reflection it creates can be difficult to manage. Using reflectors provides an equal amount of light the car.

    5

Mount the camera to a tripod to eliminate camera shake. If you are photographing a number of cars for a dealership, using a tripod also maintains a consistent shooting position, giving all the pictures the same professional look.

    6

Shoot photos at different focal lengths, starting with wide-angle lenses and gradually moving toward telephotos. Using a polarizing filter at its maximum setting will help in removing glare and reflections from windows.

Archival Storage for Negatives

Archival Storage for Negatives

With today's technology, most of our photos are quickly saved on computer hard drives, discs and portable chips. It isn't very often that photos are actually processed in a medium that we can physically hold. For those of us who took pictures before the digital age, preserving the negatives is important to consider because they will eventually deteriorate. Thankfully, there are several options to prevent our cherished photo negatives from disappearing forever.

Sheets

For ease of visibility and organization, one option is to preserve your negatives by placing them in archival quality negative preservers. These are 8.5-inch-by-11-inch acid-free sheets that are divided into sleeves, perfectly sized for negatives. Simply slide the negatives into the sleeve and stick the sheet into a binder. Be sure to wear lint-free gloves when handling negatives to avoid an accidental fingerprint.

Envelopes

Professionals often use glassine envelopes as negative storage devices. These are preferable because they come in a wide range of sizes, making them ideal for those who have shot in a variety of formats. They are also easy to organize because they are translucent. They are a high-quality archival storage system, are made from non-plasticized paper and are acid-free and pH negative. Glassine envelopes may be a bit more costly in your preservation efforts but are definitely worth it.

Rolls

If you are looking to safely store uncut rolls of negatives, there are special plastic sleeves available at photo archive stores precisely for this format. These sleeves allow you to continuously feed the roll of negatives inside, cut and then roll back up again for storage. For extra protection, store the rolls in sturdy boxes with reinforced corners.

Online Photo Storage

    Sharing photos is always rewarding.
    Sharing photos is always rewarding.

Uploading your images, using an online photo storage site, is a foolproof way to archive your treasured pictures. A virtual safe deposit box for memories, these sites keep you from worrying about damage from dust, fingerprints, water, rodents or fire. There are many affordable sites to choose from, and you can easily view and share your photos, adding captions and other details.
