How to Digiscope With a Nikon D70

How to Digiscope With a Nikon D70

Digiscoping refers to the practice of using a digital single lens reflex camera with a telescope to capture images from a long distance. This type of photography is referred to as supertelephoto. Digiscoping is a fairly new practice, but Nikon is active in the development of the practice, even releasing camera-specific tools. The Nikon D70 offers photographers a chance to take advantage of this developing practice, and Nikon offers the equipment required to get started.

Instructions

    1

Obtain the essential tools required for digiscoping. For one, you'll need the Nikon D70 or its equivalent. You'll also need Nikon's digital single lens camera attachment FSA-L1, which will allow you to mount a fieldscope to your camera. You'll also need an optical lens, such as the Fieldscope ED82. This fieldscope will give you a focal length of 1,500 mm.

    2

Remove any lens that is currently on your D70, and mount the camera attachment to the body of your camera. The attachment will fit directly into the lens mount.

    3

Mount the fieldscope to the end of the camera attachment through the smaller end of the fieldscope. No eyepiece is required for use with the fieldscope.

    4

Mount your Nikon D70 to a tripod, turn on your camera and begin to take photos as you would regularly.
