Let the professional photographer handle the "obvious" shots. The couple likely paid a hefty sum for the photographer, and they should be able to get the main shots, such as the first kiss, flower girl and the bride walking down the aisle.
2Set your camera to "Aperture Priority" mode. This is usually indicated by the letter "A" or "Av" on the camera's "Mode" dial. This will help counteract any blurriness: a common problem among amateur photographers.
3Exercise the rule of thirds, which involves dividing any potential shot into nine equal sections. Get the subject of your shot to line up with three of these sections to make your shot look more interesting and artistic.
4Take pictures of people watching the action. For instance, while the bride is walking down the aisle, take a picture of the groom staring at her. During the couple's first dance, take a picture of the bride's parents. These shots can be even more powerful than shots of the couple.
5Fill your frame with people when taking portraits. Get close to your subjects, and make the entire picture composed of their heads, shoulders or bodies. Try to avoid too much background noise, if possible.
6Take lots of pictures, and refrain from deleting anything until later. With the advent of digital cameras, it costs no more to take 500 photos than it does to take 50. Take advantage of this technology and take more pictures than you think are necessary. After sifting through your collection, choose the best photos to show the bride and groom.
