Anyone can take pictures of an aquarium since most cell phones today contain digital cameras. However, taking quality aquarium pictures requires a little more effort. Proper focus and shutter speed, also known as light exposure, are key components to aquarium photography. If you understand those aspects and follow the proper instructions, your aquarium photos will turn out swimmingly.

Mount your camera on a tripod and place a light over the top of the tank so the animals in the tank can get used to it. Make sure you set up the camera and tripod near the aquarium and turn on the camera's "macro mode." Using macro mode will allow the camera to focus on subjects that are within a foot of your lens.
2Position your body at a 45-degree angle and light your subject with an external flash. This will allow your flash's reflection to bounce away from your lens.
3Set your camera to "manual focus." Use a high ISO (400 or higher), a low shutter speed (roughly 1/20th to 1/50th of a second) and a tapered aperture (about f/11 to f/16). The slim aperture will keep a wide plane of focus. Meanwhile, the high ISO and lower shutter speed will properly expose your photographs.
4Moderately press the shutter release and track the fish and other sea creatures in the tank. Slowly move your tripod as fish pass in front of your camera. Try and photograph your subjects against contrasting sets of colors and try to avoid harsh shadows as you take pictures.
