How to Upload Multiple Photos From an SD Card

How to Upload Multiple Photos From an SD Card

Uploading multiple photos from an SD card is straightforward and simple when using your card reader and a computer. A basic drag-and-drop method will transfer small numbers of images at an efficient rate. If you will be transferring large quantities of image files or wish to pursue photography in an amateur or professional capacity, you may want to invest in a cataloging program. Such a program will give you more control over image-importing functions and will keep your images organized.

Instructions

    1

Attach the card reader to your computer using the USB connection that fits your card reader. A card reader is a fast and efficient way for transferring photos from any media storage card onto your computer.

    2

Insert the SD card into the card reader and wait for the computer to recognize the card. Most computers will read the storage card as an external hard drive, located in the computer drive or disc section of your operating system.

    3

Double-click on the icon for your card reader. This will vary based on your computer and disc, but most computers will name the drive according to the digital camera that produced the files on the SD.

    4

Open the file folder that is the final destination for the image files. Adjust the folder window to take up only a small portion of your monitor space.

    5

Click to select the folder containing your images and place it next to the destination folder on your desktop. Highlight the images you want to upload to your computer. Hold the "Control" button while clicking the mouse on the selected files to highlight multiple files. If you are unsure of the files you want to transfer, click the mouse once on the file name and a thumbnail should appear.

    6

Hold the mouse button down over any of the highlighted images and drag the files to the new destination folder. Allow the computer to make the transfer, as multiple larger-image files may take a few minutes to transfer.

    7

Double-check that the images transferred properly to the destination folder before removing the SD card from the card reader.

How to Photograph Cars

Automobile manufacturers, classic car restorers and advertising agencies representing the car industry all have one thing in common: They all want the best photographs possible of the cars they represent. Some consider photographing cars an art form and by using their techniques, you can take great car shots, too.

Instructions

    1

Prepare the car first. Many elements come together when taking good car photographs, but the first rule of order is to get the car ready. Unless you're taking creative shots of old automobiles, the car should be polished and detailed in order to show well.

    2

Consider the lighting available when shooting cars. If you're outdoors, the best lighting will be in the early morning or late afternoon when the sun's rays cast a horizontal light on the car, accentuating its features and bringing out details. Avoid shooting when the sun is directly overhead to reduce washed-out colors and harsh shadows.

    3

Steady your camera by using a tripod. Car photography depends upon sharp pictures and that means eliminating movement. A tripod is essential because it is impossible to hold your camera perfectly still. You can use a fast shutter if a tripod is unavailable but you may sacrifice color saturation.

    4

Polarize your outside car photographs with a filter to bring out glossy reflections and reduce unwanted glare. In addition, a polarizing filter is acceptable with both color and black and white photography. A circular polarizer is adjustable by turning the filter to suit the available lighting.

    5

Shoot low. A favorite shot of car enthusiasts, designed to enhance the look of power, results from lowering your camera to bumper level and shooting upwards. This gives the viewer the impression of the car bearing down upon them. In addition, this shot is popular when taken from different angles.

    6

Set a mood when photographing cars. Consider the feeling you want the viewer to experience. New cars benefit from lots of color and shine, and vintage cars look the best when photographed against a background that suits their age.

    7

Experiment by taking photographs of sections of a car when you want to emphasize certain elements. Not all photographs need to include the entire automobile. The chrome grill of a Jaguar, shot from a low angle, showing the leaping cat prominently, captures the feeling of speed and agility.

How to View 35mm Slides

How to View 35mm Slides

Because of their ease in transporting and production, the 35mm slides were popular as far back as the 1950s. If you are the lucky beneficiary of a collection of these slides, and you don't have the foggiest idea how to view and enjoy them, there are several options open to you. With the advancement of technology, you can now bring slides into the 21st century by digitizing them and sharing them with family and friends around the world or you could use them for your private viewing.

Instructions

    1

Insert your slides upside down into the slots on the carousel tray, working clockwise around the tray. Place the tray onto the slide projector lining up the first slide (No. 1) with the arrow on the projector. Gently press the tray down until it locks onto the projector and insert the inner circle portion of the tray which locks to keep the slides in place. Insert one end of plug into the projector and other into an electrical outlet. Turn the power button on the back of the projector to "On," adjust the lens, and advance the slides either by pressing a button on the right side of the projector or by using the remote. View slides on a wall, on a ceiling mounted screen or on a portable screen.

    2

Scan your 35mm slides and view them as photographs. Use a flatbed scanner that has a built-in photo negative and slide scanning capabilities as well as a transparent materials adapter (TMA). This allows the scanner to import transparent materials such as slides. Connect it to your computer and turn on both your computer and scanner. Clean the glass on your scanner with a clean, lint-free cloth, open the scanner, remove the TMA cover and place your slides right side up and side by side on the glass. Lay the template on the glass, align the arrow on the template with the arrow on the glass. Close the scanner lid and press the "Scan Film" button. Various dialog boxes will appear asking if you want to change settings, scan negatives, and set resolution. Save files with a high resolution if your computer has enough memory available. Choose the appropriate options until all the images are scanned to your satisfaction. Save the scanned files on your computer and print the photographs as digital images when you are ready to view them.

    3

Create a DVD slide show with your scanned 35mm slides by copying all images to the hard drive on your computer. Using the file manager on your computer, view the images as thumbnails, sort images into appropriate folders, format the digital scans to the required specifications and save the files as .tiff or .jpeg files. Once the files are in an appropriate digital format, import them into your DVD slide show program and add background music if you like. Burn the files onto a DVD data disk or CD to be viewed as a slideshow. You can either view the slides on your computer or use a DVD player and a television set to enjoy viewing the slides.

How to Use Styrofoam for Props

How to Use Styrofoam for Props

Styrofoam is a great material to use in making photo studio props because it's relatively cheap and highly versatile. It can easily be bought in arts and crafts stores. It's lightweight, easy to cut into different shapes and easy to paint. Styrofoam props can include: numbers and letterings, clouds, columns, rocks and boulders, animal figures, snowmen, snowflakes, brickwall and fireplace setting.

Instructions

    1

Pick the right shape, size and thickness of your Styrofoam for your intended props. If you plan to do an assortment of props, it's more economical if you buy a large size and then cut it into smaller pieces. If you have a desired color for your props in mind, colored Styrofoams are also available.

    2

Use a pen or fine-tip marker to draw the shape of your props. You can also draw your design on paper first so you have a visual guide of your final product.

    3

Cut out the Styrofoam to its desired shape. Use a cutter with a retractable blade and slice through with a saw-like motion. An electric Styrofoam cutter can also be bought in arts and craft stores. This has a heated wire that can cut more precise shapes in Styrofoams.

    4

If your props have different parts, assemble and glue it together. Put adhesive glue on both parts that need to be connected. Let the glue sit in for awhile until it gets tacky before pressing the parts together.

    5

Paint your assembled props using a paint brush and water-based latex paint. Do not used oil-based enamels or spray paints as some contains solvents that can melt the styrofoam. Let it dry in a cool, dry place not under the sun, since too much heat can also expand the shape of Styrofoam.

    6

Add embellishments to your props. Decorate as much as you want. You can add buttons, glitters or different ornaments to your props. You can also screw in a hook and add a yarn if your props will be in a hanging position. After screwing a hook into the Styrofoam, put some drops of adhesive glue on it so it won't easily come off.
