Digital photography allows you to make a variety of adjustments to an image. From changing the size and orientation of an image to altering the highlights, midtones and shadow, much of the work of photography now takes place after you have taken the photo. You may even reverse the colors, light and shadow of an image to create a digital negative using some basic photo-editing software.
Instructions

Open the image you wish to convert into a negative in the photo-editing software of your choice.
2Click on the "Image" menu.
3Click the "Adjustments" menu selection.
4Click on the "Desaturate" adjustment selection to remove all color from the image.
5Click on the "Image" menu and click on the "Adjustments" selection.
6Click on the "Levels" menu selection to open a dialog box with a histogram showing the highlights, midtones and shadows of the image.
7Move the left (shadows) slider to approximately 24 and move the right (highlights) shadow to approximately 200. This will decrease the amount of contrast in the image and produce a lower contrast image suitable for a digital negative.
8Click on the "Image" menu and click the "Adjustments" selection.
9Click on "Invert" to invert the shadows and highlights and create a negative image of the picture.
10Click the "File" menu, select "Save As," enter a file name and destination and click "Save" to save the picture negative file.
