Light and shadow are powerful tools in photography. The photographer must consider important decisions like where shadows fall, the angle light enters the frame, and how bright and direct to make light sources. To freely manipulate these factors, photographers often work in controlled environments. Photography studios are filled with artificial lights and very little natural light. There are easy ways to help you add and manipulate light in your studio without a professional photographer's budget.

Place two chairs back to back, three feet in front of the halogen portable work light. Drape the white bed sheet completely over the side of chairs furthest away from the light. This creates a powerful light-diffusion filter that evenly lights the studio.
2Screw the 100 watt full spectrum light bulb into the clip lamp. Clip the lamp onto the back of a chair about three feet to the left of the light-diffusion filter. Adjust the lamp's position to light a more specific area.
3Place the easel about three feet to the right of the light-diffusion filter. Drape the emergency blanket over the easel. Change the easel's vertical adjustment if needed to reflect light onto any remaining shadows.
4Place the object or person four to six feet in front of the light diffusion filter, clip lamp, and light reflector. Take your photograph.
