Los Angeles boasts one of the largest art scenes in the United States. Without some of the iconic landmarks that New York and San Francisco share, finding good spots to take photos in the City of Angels might be difficult at first for shutterbugs but look hard enough and you will find towering skyscrapers, majestic parks and diverse people to photograph.
Grand Central Market
Los Angeles' largest open-air market is a forum for great photography. Experience commerce at its finest as Californians pick fresh fruit, vegetables, meat, fish and exotic dishes. Unlike many markets, Grand Central Market allows for plenty of sunlight for photography. It is perhaps the best place for taking photos of people. Snap action pictures of consumers sifting through goods and making transactions with vendors.
Griffith Park
California's second-largest park, Griffith Park displays 4,310 acres of photogenic trails and woods -- full of many hidden gems for landscape photography. Rent a bicycle at Spokes 'n Stuff Bike Rental to take full advantage of the park. Go to the bird sanctuary and Western Canyon's for great photos of birds and flowers. Exceptional views of the Hollywood sign can be taken on one of Griffith Park's many hiking trails. Several other attractions, including the Griffith Observatory, L.A. Zoo and Green Theater, are found in the park.
Hollywood and Vine
The Hollywood intersection made famous by Tom Waits is a haven for the tourists and the darker side of Los Angeles. Catch a snapshot of your favorite actors and actresses stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Then venture away a few blocks to find Hollywood in disrepair. Run-down buildings and squatters make for a glimpse into the Hollywood that isn't as glamorous as films and postcards.
Elysian Park
Skyline photographs of Los Angeles are difficult to take. The city's smog problem and poor sight lines make it a difficult task. On a clear day, panoramic photos of the city's skyline can be captured from Elysian Park or its nearby Chavez Ravine neighborhood near Dodger Stadium. Note that pictures of the skyline come out more definitively at night than in the day when the smog is at its highest.
