But a percentage of people enjoy the artistic quality of photography, and like to express that through the images they capture. Anyone can do it, but for young kids and teens, there are some steps you can take if you want to turn photography into a career.

Buy a camera, but don't spend a lot of money on your first one. When your just starting out, buy a basic digital camera to play with. If your really young, you might have to have your parents buy it for you.
2Experiment. Go take pictures of everything, see what interests you. Ask your friends to model for you, take pictures of flowers in your back yard, try to capture animals. Just take lots of pictures, its a digital camera, so you can always delete your practice ones.
3Once you've started playing with types of photos, try and play with the camera settings. You can read up on your camera and what it does, but the best way to learn is to just try out the different settings.
4During middle and high school take advantage of photography classes. You will be able to use better equipment and will learn valuable things such as lighting and proper contrast. Some classes also show you how to develop your own film. Even though it is a digital age, it is beneficial for you to learn about all types of cameras and film and your classes should go over that with you.
5Start getting business, whether you want to shoot people, landscapes, animals or still art. Establish yourself as a budding professional. A good way to do this is to offer discount prices to do classmates senior pictures, prom pictures or MySpace pictures. Make your your prices reasonable, most people who can afford a professional will go to them, at this stage you are building a reputation and portfolio so don't get greedy. If you don't want to shoot people, take your pictures and start trying to sell them at fairs and Saturday markets. The money you make off of this should go towards buying better equiptment.
6Take more classes at your community college or a university. You don't have to have a degree to be a photographer, but to work for a big company you might need some schooling. Also, try and find intern positions with photographers, this will do wonders for your resume, as well as teach you so much you won't get in school. If you want to do portraits or weddings, slowly building a clientele and getting your name out there is the best way.
