How to Integrate Photos Into Home Movies

How to Integrate Photos Into Home Movies

It is pretty easy to add still photographs to your home movies and integrate them with your video footage and soundtrack. Adobe Photoshop Premiere Elements allows you to easily add your images, but you may not know it since there is no "images" space identified in either the timeline or sceneline view. Images are added into the VIDEO track the same way that video clips are added to the timeline or sceneline. This article provides some step-by-step techniques on how to do this integration.

Instructions

    1
    Opne Media

Add all of the media files you will use in your project. You can do this from the ORGANIZER or choose GET MEDIA from the file menu. Images do not have any markers, but videos and music files are marked with appropriate icons. This allows you to easily scan your opened media for pictures and videos. One thing you will notice is that Adobe Premiere is a memory hog and may work very slowly depending on your computer speed and available disk space. You should always close all other programs when editing video. Even if you have a very fast computer, your production speed will increase if you free up resources for Premiere. Let's face it, video files are huge, so you need to help your computer help you.

    2
    Sceneline View

Drag and drop all of your video clips and images to the SCENELINE in the correct order you want them. In this view perform any video editing you may want to do. To edit the video, simply right-click on the video or image in the sceneline and select PROPERTIES. This will open an editing panel on the right that allows you to change contrast, brightness, color, movement and even audio volume. If it is an image rather than a video; you can still adjust elements such as color, brightness and contrast.

    3
    Timeline View

Once you have everything the way you want it, click on TIMELINE to open the timeline view. Notice the yellow line going through the video and audio timeline. For video, it controls the opacity of the video. If you were to drag the yellow line to the bottom the video would turn black, or to the top it will turn white. The yellow line in the audio track controls the volume. Notice that the yellow line on the audio tracks is all the way to the bottom since I wanted to disable the audio to prevent conflicts with the soundtrack. Notice also that the images have no audio and they are small compared to the video files.

    4
    Zoom In

This is a ZOOMED view of the TIMELINE. It is necessary to zoom in on the timeline to work with the images and short clips. The zoomed view will allow you to use handles to stretch or shrink the timeline of each image. Images default to a screen running time of 5 seconds. The video in this article was made at this default setting. If you want to adjust this time, use TIME STRETCH mode to adjust the time the image is on the screen. You can right-click on the image to access the time stretch option or you can use the adjustment handles at the front and back points of each image.

    5
    Add Titles

After making your timeline adjustments, switch back to SCENELINE view to add titles in the front and back of the movie. Browse the various title choices and drag and drop them into the right point in the SCENELINE. Double-click on the title to bring it into the editing window to edit the text and adjust the text properties. You may have to switch back to the timeline to adjust the time the title is on the screen. Your movie is now complete except for adding the soundtrack. The movie is now at its finished length, so you can position the music in the SOUNDTRACK line of the SCENE view. Switch to the timeline to adjust the volume of the soundtrack and to fade in or fade out the music.
