Ortho-Litho film is used primarily to reproduce line art, or for special effect purposes and art photography. Litho film shows only the blackest blacks and the whitest whites in print, and only shows midtones under certain conditions and with specialized development. Litho film is a slow film, with popular brands like Arista usually rated close to ISO 6. You can shoot Litho film just like regular film, and it can be developed either in a home darkroom or in a developing tank using Kodak Dektol developer, a water stop bath and a rapid fixer like Kodafix.

Mix enough Dektol working solution, one part for every six parts water, to cover the roll of litho film. Measure out a stop bath of fresh water equal to the amount of developer. Prepare the fixer. Normal plastic canisters require 325 ml of developer to cover one 35mm roll, and 575 ml to cover one roll of 120 film.
2Place the exposed roll of film, the film reel and the film canister inside the dark bag. Insert your hands into the cuffs of the dark bag, and slowly wind the entire film onto the reel. Be careful not to touch the emulsion, and only handle the film by the sides. Insert the developing reel into the developing canister. Close the developing canister. Open the dark bag and remove the canister. Properly dispose of any film remnants inside the dark bag.
3Wait for the developer, the stop bath and the fixer to reach room temperature.
4Pour the developer into the developing canister. Agitate the canister briefly. Develop the film for two minutes. Dump the developer out.
5Pour the stop bath into the canister. Agitate the canister for 30 seconds. Dump the stop bath out.
6Pour the rapid fixer into the film canister, and shake the canister for 30 seconds. Fix the film for at least 4 minutes. Dump the rapid fixer out of the canister, and wash the film.
7Wash the film for at least five minutes, pouring fresh water into the tank, then dumping it out. Repeat this step until the time is completed.
8Unscrew the top of the film developing canister, and remove the film reel. You should be able to see negative images on the film. If the film is not clear, develop the film for a longer period.
9Clip the film, and hang it in a dry space to dry completely before handling.
