Open your photo in your editing software.
2Create a duplicate layer of your photo. Select the top layer.
3Change the top layer to black and white. Most programs have a one-click black and white option, but if not, you can set the hue and saturation of the photo to zero.
4Use the free selection or lasso tool to trace around the edges of the area you wish to leave in color.
5Expand the selection by one pixel and feather the selection by 5 pixels.
6Delete the selected area. This will create a 'hole' in the top layer, exposing the colored area on the bottom layer.
7Merge the two layers and save the image under a new file name.
