Taking photographs of people is a taxing task. You have to worry about lighting, shutter speed, aperture and many other things. However, getting a client to laugh for a photo is probably more challenging than the technical aspects of photography only because your clients won't all have the same sense of humor. There are a broad range of things you can do to make your clients laugh for a photo.

Make your clients feel comfortable; they won't laugh otherwise. Before you photograph your client, break the ice by telling a joke, a one-line phrase or a playful tip or trick that will help him relax. If you're photographing a married or engaged couple, for instance, you could playfully tease them if they have to kiss for the photo.
2Keep talking to your clients as you prepare to take their photo. Ask your clients questions and try and find out more about their backstory. Let your clients talk as much as they want. Laugh out loud at their jokes if necessary and you can even make animal noises for the little children. Keep the action light and fun. A hearty belly laugh from a photographer will probably get smiles from clients.
3Tell your client to laugh hysterically. If your client finds his fake laugh funny, then you'll probably get a real laugh from him. You can also instruct your client to "shake off the jitters" right before you snap the photo. If you join the client in shaking off these jitters, you'll likely get a photo worthy laugh from him.
